Drawings of Paint Brushes from the Era

Drawings of Paint Brushes from the Era

The Winsor & Newton 1849 catalogue shows brushes with wooden handles and metal ferrels that are made of sable hair.  I have many brushes like these in my collection that I can use.  I will sand off any printing and steer away from painted handles.

I was glad to find that pencils were pretty modern in 1863. These reproductions are available for $0.50 each through http://www.sullivanpress.com/

This paint box is available today through Dick Blick and made by Yarka St. Petersburg. I think it is a pretty good match!

19th century paint box
